SPRAWL zero New Game Plus: What Changes on a Second Run
Under The Mayo’s review makes the strongest case for it: “If this game were only the campaign, I’d give it a 7.5 … But New Game Plus allows you to take your fully powered character back through the campaign or jump into any level of choice with unlocked modifiers if you choose and run through revamped versions of nearly every level.”
What changes
According to that review, which played through New Game Plus twice:
- Enemy placement moves. Enemies are in places they were not before.
- Main fights are harder, and higher-tier enemies appear earlier.
- Empty walking sections get combat. This fixes one of the main complaints about the first run.
- The ending plays out the same.
The reviewer also notes that “most of the later levels feel better on New Game Plus 2 with the additional enemies”, so the remix appears to go on past a single extra run.
Modifiers
The Reliquary modifiers bought with Relic Fragments apply to these runs and to levels loaded from level select. There are 11, from Spartan (players report double enemy health) to God Mode. Only one gold modifier can be active at a time. Full list: modifiers.
Things to know:
- Loading a level from level select with the Five Plus Two challenge gives you only a pistol at the start (Steam forum), which makes the drone door in Domination a problem. The fix players found: pull yourself to drones with the gloves and throw damaged drones at the others.
- Under The Mayo says a double jump can be unlocked through one of the post-game challenges.
Is it worth a second run?
Players who stay for New Game Plus tend to rate the game higher. The skill ceiling is higher than a first run suggests: catching your own grenades, grabbing Impaler spikes and chaining Bullet Time kills. A Steam thread also reports Quake-style strafe-jumping with forward air-dashes (tap crouch in the air while holding forward), which players use for speed and melee.
