SPRAWL zero Gravity Gloves: Everything They Can Do
The Gravity Gloves are the centre of SPRAWL zero. Director Carlos Lizarraga, in IGN’s gameplay showcase: “There is no traditional use key. You won’t be opening doors, but instead blowing walls straight open.” In the Quad Damage interview he said the idea was to ask “why was the gravity gun a gun? Why not just always have it active?“
1. Getting weapons
Guns are disposable, so the gloves are how you rearm. They pull a dropped or scattered weapon to your hand “from a pretty generous range” (Under The Mayo). When a gun runs dry, throw it (it stuns whoever it hits) and grab the next.
The swap trick: while holding a gun, grab a second one to exchange them, then grab the first back. Reviewers use this to take two weapons into a dangerous fight, or to keep a favourite gun for later. See the weapons page.
2. Catching projectiles
- Enemy grenades can be caught and thrown back. Under The Mayo describes shooting their own grenade, catching it and throwing it down at a group.
- Fireballs and Impaler shots become electrified when grabbed (demo patch notes), so they chain damage on the throw. Catch Impaler spikes by pressing fire and interact together, or in Bullet Time.
- The Centurion’s projectiles can be caught (IGN showcase).
- Damaged drones can be caught before they fall and thrown into other drones (Steam forum, Domination).
3. The environment as a weapon
- Barrels, boxes and gas canisters deal good damage and stun. A toxic gas tank can clear a room, and the director used one to save ammo in the showcase.
- Car doors work as light bullet shields; anything you hold floats in front of you and blocks some bullets, but not all of them.
- Turrets can be picked up and fired as makeshift guns. Two reviewers found them awkward to aim.
- Health crates: first-aid kits come in a container you have to break. Throwing it at an enemy breaks it.
- Container doors can be blown off to hurt the enemies behind them.
4. Movement
The gloves have melee magnetism: they pull you towards what you are punching. Players doing the Five Plus Two challenge use this to reach drones in Domination with only a pistol.
Known annoyances
- A held object blocks your view and hides whether a target is behind cover. Only barrels are drawn see-through (Under The Mayo).
- Thrown weapons can bounce out of the level.
- The demo had crashes when pressing E to use the gloves on some systems; see known issues.
